Project Description
This project is part of an overall project being administered by
the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and the Regional
Transportation Plan (RTP), which includes funding to widen US60
(Grand Avenue) by one lane in each direction along various segments,
between Loop 303 and Interstate 17, to create a continuous six-lane
arterial by 2011. Other unspecified improvements to improve
traffic flow on Grand Avenue are included in later phases of the
20-year Transportation Plan. This particular segment within
the City of Peoria, as defined by ADOT, is from 99th Avenue to 83rd
Avenue.
The segment from 99th Avenue to
83rd Avenue includes the following types of improvements:

Widening of Grand Avenue to six
lanes (three lanes in each direction)

Loop 101 and New River Bridge

Intersection Improvements at
91st Avenue and Grand Avenue, to include dual left-turn lanes for
eastbound Grand Avenue to northbound 91st Avenue

Construction of a new sidewalk
along the east side of 91st Avenue at the BNSF Railroad Crossing

Project
Status:
The contractor
switched construction activities to
the inside lanes (median) improvements along Grand Avenue, between
L101 and 84th Avenue. Work continues at the intersection of
91st Avenue and Grand Avenue. BNSF Railroad crossing
improvements have begun. Utilities, traffic signal
improvements, telecommunications and retaining wall improvements
continue along the corridor.
The second phase of the Grand
Avenue widening project has begun, which will add a third lane in
each direction on a 10-mile stretch of Grand Avenue, between Loop
303 and 99th Avenue. Construction activity is occurring on the
western portion of the project, between Loop 303 and Bell Road, as
well as on the eastern portion to install three sound walls, between
99th Avenue and 111th Avenue, on the south side of Grand Avenue.
All sound walls are expected to be completed this spring.

ON GOING RESTRICTIONS AND CLOSURES
Grand Avenue, between 83rd and 99th Avenues
Through Summer 2010
Grand Avenue will be restricted to one lane westbound and
eastbound, between 83rd and 99th avenues through the summer of 2010, for
work on the Grand Avenue widening project. The speed limit has
been reduced to 35 mph through the construction zone to maintain
safety for motorists, pedestrians and workers during
construction.
Loop 101 at Grand Avenue
Through Summer 2010
The northbound Loop 101 off-ramp to Grand Avenue will be
restricted to one lane through the summer of 2010 for work on the Grand
Avenue widening project.
While ADOT strives to inform the public about planned
restrictions during any complex construction project, there is
a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may

Construction crews have established the current work zone, and
have restricted
Grand Avenue to one lane in each direction, between 99th and 83rd
Avenues, through the summer of 2010. In addition, the speed limit
on Grand Avenue has been reduced to 35 miles per hour in the
construction zone for the safety of motorists, pedestrians and
