99TH AVENUE TO 83RD AVENUE (EN00214)

Project Description
This project is part of an overall project being administered by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), which includes funding to widen US60 (Grand Avenue) by one lane in each direction along various segments, between Loop 303 and Interstate 17, to create a continuous six-lane arterial by 2011.  Other unspecified improvements to improve traffic flow on Grand Avenue are included in later phases of the 20-year Transportation Plan.  This particular segment within the City of Peoria, as defined by ADOT, is from 99th Avenue to 83rd Avenue.

The segment from 99th Avenue to 83rd Avenue includes the following types of improvements:

  • Widening of Grand Avenue to six lanes (three lanes in each direction)

  • Loop 101 and New River Bridge Improvements

  • Intersection Improvements at 91st Avenue and Grand Avenue, to include dual left-turn lanes for eastbound Grand Avenue to northbound 91st Avenue

  • Construction of a new sidewalk along the east side of 91st Avenue at the BNSF Railroad Crossing

Project Status
During the week of May 23, 2011, ADOT will be adjusting maintenance holes, valves, frames and covers to match the new pavement surface.  During this time, Grand Avenue will again be reduced one lane in each direction from 99th Avenue to 83rd Avenue.  Motorists should anticipate traffic delays and consider alternate routes during this time.

Once completed, the final remaining item of work will be to add the durable thermoplastic pavement striping marks on top of the current temporary painted striping.  This work will be completed at night on May 31st only.
