Assuring Our Water Supply

Although Arizona has experienced several years of drought, Peoria is not facing an immediate water supply shortage because of progressive leadership and wise resource management. The City has planned for decades to meet the challenge of providing customers with a safe, high quality water supply even during times of drought.

The City of Peoria obtains renewable surface water supplies from the Central Arizona Project (CAP) and SRP. Colorado River water is delivered through the 336-mile long CAP canal, which starts in Lake Havasu, while SRP delivers water from the Salt and Verde Rivers. Groundwater and reclaimed, or “nonpotable”, water are other sources of municipal water. Because the City of Peoria has invested in four distinct water supplies, when one water supply is experiencing below normal water levels, the City has three other supplies it can rely upon to provide water to its customers.
