Water Quality Center
The City of Peoria has been a part of the
University of Arizona (U of A) Water
Quality Center (WQC) for the past two
years. We support research on watershed
issues that benefit the management of our
surface water sources. This past year
there were news reports on water quality
issues in north Peoria associated with the Rose Valley Water Company. Some
concerns were even raised about one of
Peoria’s wells. The WQC is proposing to
conduct research on "Emerging Pathogens
in Arizona." The Utilities Department is in
the process of supporting this important
research project. |

Hydrologic Computer Model
Peoria undertook an investigation
regarding regional groundwater supplies by
developing a numerical computer model of
Peoria’s subsurface geology and hydrology.
This model will permit the City to better
manage its groundwater supplies.
Rose Valley Water Company
Rose Valley Water Company is one of four
private water companies that operate
within the corporate boundaries of the City
of Peoria. In November of 2002, the City of
Peoria provided water, on a temporary
basis, to the Rose Valley Water Company in
north Peoria. Rose Valley Water Company
experienced some water quality compliance
issues that resulted in Maricopa County
Environmental Services Department
requiring Rose Valley to connect to the City
of Peoria water system and temporarily
shut down their two wells and storage
tanks. As of January 30, 2003, the Rose
Valley Water Company had completed
modifications to their water system and
returned to supplying water to their
