Inspections are required prior to receiving a Certificate of Occupancy by a member of the Environmental or Industrial Users Division. All commercial facilities must follow the Environmental/Industrial Users requirements regarding the installation and testing of backflow devices. The provided guidelines will assist in receiving a Certificate of Occupancy. The items on this list must be completed prior to scheduling an inspection or receiving a (C of O).

• Backflow Assemblies installed according to current City of Peoria Backflow Details

• Backflow Assemblies tested with a passing test report by a City of Peoria Recognized Tester.

• Provide a copy of the passing test report to the inspector for verification and record retention.

All commercial facilities are required to have a backflow inspection and signed off by a member of the Environmental/Industrial Users Division. This includes Tenant Improvements on facilities that are not required to have backflow protection, such as (retail stores, banks, etc.). The purpose is to verify that there are no cross connections in place that may have been installed following the plans review process.

The City of Peoria enforces an isolation program meaning that not only is a backflow assembly required at the meter but all internal appliances with a direct connection to the water supply as well. This includes but is not limited to ice makers, coffee/tea urns, carbonators, boilers, soap/chemical dispensers, photo-processing equipment etc.

An additional inspection may be required concerning pretreatment apparatus such as grease interceptors, and traps. Contact the Environmental/Industrial Users Division concerning these matters.
