Peoria Police Remind You to
“Party Responsibly” for the New Year
The Peoria Police
Department reminds you to “party responsibly” during the New Year
celebrations and to help make sure you are kept safe we are
increasing our patrols. On New Years Eve we will have increased
patrols by officers on bikes in the commercial district around 83rd
Avenue and Bell Road. We will also have increased patrols by our
Traffic Services Section as part of the West Valley DUI Task Force.
The message we want to make sure everyone gets is if you are going
to drink alcohol, drink responsibly and HAVE A DESIGNATED DRIVER.
We would also like to pass on some other reminders;
DO NOT SHOOT GUNS INTO THE AIR TO BRING IN THE NEW YEAR!!! This is a
FELONY under Arizona’s Shannon’s Law, a law passed after 14 year old
Shannon Smith was killed by a random gun shot in 1999 in Phoenix. A
standard hand gun bullet can travel almost a mile and a standard
rifle bullet can travel about 1 ˝ miles. When these bullets come
back to earth they come back faster then when they were shot. What
does this mean? It means a random bullet can easily penetrate the
roof of a house and kill someone.
DO NOT CELEBRATE WITH FIREWORKS!!! To possess or use fireworks in
Arizona is also crime. The dangers caused by fireworks are the
possibility of fires and you can also injure yourself or others.
PROTECT YOUR PETS!!! Remember to bring your pets inside. They scare
very easily from the loud noises associated with the New Years
celebrations and many times get out of the yard. Make sure your pets
have a collar with a license tag and a tag with your name and
telephone number on it. You may also want to contact your vet or the
humane society to get an identification chip placed in your pet.
The Peoria Police Department family would like to wish you and your
family a safe and happy New Year and ask you to help us keep it that
way by celebrating “RESPONSIBLY”.
