Peoria Police Communications Center Adopts family
from Mississippi for Christmas The staff in the Peoria Police Department Communications Center adopted a fellow dispatcher and her family who were affected by Hurricane Katrina. They learned of this program through the non-profit website, www.911cares.com, which helps out Police and Fire Dispatchers all over the world in times of need/tragedy. Their adopted dispatcher is 54 year old Pauline Ruhr from the Waveland, Mississippi Police Department and she is married to Kent and they have custody of their three grandchildren, ages 16, 15 and 8. Pauline and her family lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. Their home was under water up to the roof and is a complete loss. They are currently living in a Civil Defense portable trailer. On Thursday, December 15, 2005, 8 boxes of donated presents and used clothing (100 pounded worth of donations) were shipped to them along with $70 in Wal-Mart gift cards for the family. ### |
