On Wednesday November 8 at 1040 a.m. we responded to a call of a possible explosive device in the service area of Peoria Pontiac/GMC located at 8660 W. Bell Road after it was observed in a drain pipe by a customer. Upon arrival, our officers were taken to a drain pipe in the service drive and what looked like an explosive device was seen.

The Bomb Squad from Glendale PD was called and, upon their assessment, they felt it looked enough like a real device that they decided to call in the remainder of their team as well as their robot to remove the device.

Information was developed that the suspect was seen around the dealer with what looked like a bomb, but he said it was a fake. While waiting for the bomb squad, the suspect arrived at the dealer for work. The suspect was interviewed and he told us the device was a fake and that he and other employees would play jokes on each other with it. He said he placed it the drain about 2 weeks ago. The device was removed by the bomb technicians and confirmed to be a hoax device.

The suspect was citied and released at the scene on the above charges.
