Peoria Police Arrest Driver Responsible for Mowing Down, Killing Dog

On Friday, October 14, 2005, just after 8am, Peoria Police received a call from a distraught citizen who had just witnessed a man drive up on the sidewalk and, while traveling at a high rate of speed, strike a dog that had been wandering in the area. Several drivers had stopped in the area and were trying to corral the dog when 26 year old Phoenix resident David Bouchard drove his Honda Accord up onto the sidewalk and struck the Great Dane. Witnesses report that after striking the dog, Bouchard drove back into the street and continued driving away at a high rate of speed. The incident occurred on 107th Avenue South of Olive in Peoria.

Police went to the Phoenix home where the car was registered, and arrested Bouchard for Cruelty to Animals, a Class 6 Felony. He taken into custody without incident and booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail. An alert Peoria Animal Control Officer noticed a missing dog flyer, leading back to the owner of the dog who was then informed of the tragic incident.
