Peoria Experiences Spike in Vehicle Burglaries In the ten day period between Aug 13th and Aug 22nd there were 36 reported cases of burglaries from vehicles in Peoria, with most incidents occurring between 6pm and 2am. This is an average of 4.5 cases per day, more than twice what we usually see. Tuesday is the most common day, when 9 of these incidents were reported. Vehicles were burglarized in most areas of the city, with no particular pattern. Although investigators have been unable to establish a pattern or link in any of these recent incidents, witnesses were able to provide suspect descriptions in several of the cases. The following descriptions are from different cases, and are independent from one another. Anyone with information about these individuals is urged to call the department’s hot tip line at 623-773-7045. SUSPECT INFORMATION: Suspect One: a white male, age 20-25, with long blond hair. He was seen leaving one of these incidents at 7 o’clock in the morning with another white male in a mid nineties red Hyundai four door sedan. In another incident, a Hispanic male was seen speeding away in a white van at 1 o’clock in the morning. The most common method of entry was a broken window. Although the car stereo was most often the target, many of the vehicles burglarized also had valuables such as cell phones, firearms, briefcases, and purses in plain view, making them prime opportunities for burglars. Leaving such items in your car is an open invitation to these thieves, who look for such easy opportunities in driveways and parking lots. Protect your vehicle and your valuables! Don’t leave items in plain view in your car, and securely lock your vehicle. The number one location for these crimes was a residential driveway: police recommend using your garage to secure your vehicle, as thieves see vehicles in driveways as easy targets. As always, if you see a suspicious car or person hanging around, report it to the police. The gut feeling you have may just turn out to be confirmed, and you can prevent a would-be thief from getting what he is after. ### ### |
