POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES KEY PROMOTIONS;
NEW SERGEANTS TO TAKE OATH OF OFFICE
Peoria
Police Chief David Leonardo this week announced the promotion of
five veteran officers to the rank of Sergeant.
Officer Bruce Walls will be promoted to the rank of Sergeant,
assigned to the Patrol Services Bureau. Sergeant Walls has been with
the Peoria Police Department since August, 2001. During the last
four years, he has shown exceptional leadership skills as an
officer, detective and training officer both here in Peoria and at
the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy.
Officer Luis Aponte is also promoted to the rank of Sergeant,
assigned as a Patrol Services Bureau supervisor. Sergeant Aponte was
hired as a patrol officer in March, 2001. He was later appointed as
a detective in the Criminal Investigations Bureau, Street Crimes
Unit. Sergeant Aponte’s work has been recognized with several
awards, including a Life Saving Award, which was presented in 2002.
Officer Charles Bezio is promoted to the rank of Sergeant,
temporarily assigned as the supervisor for the Criminal
Investigations Bureau, Property Crimes Unit. Sergeant Bezio was
hired as an officer in December, 1996. Since that time, Sergeant
Bezio has worked as a patrol officer, field training officer and
detective. His efforts in the Property Crimes Unit were instrumental
in the development and implementation of the Department’s Bait Car
Program.
Sergeants Walls, Aponte and Bezio will be sworn in during a ceremony
at 2pm on Wednesday, August 24, 2005. That ceremony is open to the
