Zero Tolerance!!!
Peoria Police Announce School Zone Traffic Enforcement

School starts Monday, August 14. Are you ready for school to start? The Peoria Police Department is taking a “zero tolerance” stance on speeding in school zones. 15 MPH means 15 MPH. The officers assigned to Traffic Services will be working closely with the schools in their area to ensure we have a safe start to the school year. This program will take place from August 14 to August 25. All of our officers will be paying close attention to school zones the entire school year and you will get a citation if caught speeding, not stopping for the crossing guard, or passing another vehicle in a school zone. Please keep in mind the following:

1. 15 means 15, there is NO allowance over the speed limit and just because you don’t see kids in the area doesn’t mean you can ignore the 15 MPH zone.
2. No Passing in a school zone means NO passing or over taking another vehicle while in a school zone, no matter how slow they are going. This is because kids are so small, they can’t be seen easily and a vehicle may be slowing for a child you can’t see.
3. Stop when the crossing guard has the stop sign out.
4. Kids are very excited at the start of school so please slow down in neighborhoods and around schools.

The life you save may be that of your own child.
