Peoria Police Offers Bonus to Recruit
Dispatchers In an effort to recruit more people who are interested in becoming a Communications Specialist, the Peoria Police Department is now offering a hiring bonus. The bonus for an experienced dispatcher will be: o $1,000 to be paid on hiring o $2,000 to be paid upon completion of training and certification of “solo” operator status by the Police Department. For a new hire with no experience the bonus will be: o $500 to be paid on hiring o $1,000 to be paid upon completion of training and certification of “solo” operator status by the Police Department. A career as a Communications Specialist is exciting and rewarding. The Communications Center is a 24/7 operation which receives incoming calls for police and 911 emergency assistance. Communications Specialists are the first contact in an emergency situation. They are trained to determine the type of emergency and to quickly dispatch the appropriate police personnel to render assistance. Specialists also perform a variety of general support duties related to communication activities including the operation of Computer Assisted Dispatch (C.A.D.), the Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (A.C.J.I.S.), computer and teletype communications, record keeping, typing, filing, and the monitoring of alarm systems. If you have a high school diploma or GED, two years of general clerical experience or other experience which demonstrates problem solving skills, have the ability to successfully multi-task during high volume activity, able to communicate effectively, and type a minimum of 40 words per minute we would like to hear from you.
