PEORIA POLICE DEPARTMENT SALUTES ITS FINEST

Seven Peoria Police Department Officers and Employees were honored by Police Chief David Leonardo last week for being voted Employee of the Quarter.

Employees are nominated by their peers for having an exceptional work ethic and a drive to go above and beyond what’s required. Nominations are reviewed and voted on by an Awards Committee made up of employees, both sworn and non-sworn, from throughout the Department. Below is a listing of those exemplary employees voted Employee of the Quarter.

Communications Supervisor Tanya Watson was named Civilian Supervisor or Manager of the Quarter. Tanya was nominated for her willingness to step up and volunteer to fill in wherever there’s a need. She was also recognized for her interpersonal skills, especially her ability to get her team to work together.

Public Education Specialist Ann Bowers was named Civilian Support Staff of the Quarter. Ann was nominated, among other things, for her work in Peoria schools, with the Citizens Police Academy and with various Block Watch Programs.

Communications Specialist Lori Binns is the Communications Specialist of the Quarter. Lori was recognized for her dedication to the Communications Bureau and her ability to work not only with her team, but also with the public when taking calls coming into Dispatch.

Officer Jeff Hite is the Officer of the Quarter. Officer Hite was recognized for his willingness to share his knowledge of Peoria with newly sworn officers and to offer them guidance and mentorship.

Officer Norm Bacon is the Specialty Officer of the Quarter. Officer Bacon was nominated because of his outstanding work ethic, dedication to traffic enforcement, and his commitment to reducing collisions and remove intoxicated drivers from Peoria streets.

Sgt. Doug Steele is the Sworn Supervisor or Manager of the Quarter. Sgt. Steele was recognized for his ability to motivate and lead his team in the Criminal Investigations Bureau.

Police Services Officer Gary Bethards is the Uniformed Civilian of the Quarter. Gary was recognized for playing a critical role in the Department’s Animal Control Unit, specifically for his dedication to protecting wayward or neglected animals in Peoria.
