BENEFIT SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT RAISES $9,000.00 FOR PARALYZED OFFICER On Saturday June 24, a benefit softball tournament was held at Peoria’s Rio Vista Park in support of Peoria Police Officer Bill Weigt, who was paralyzed after being shot by a murder suspect on December 17, 2005. There were three divisions at the softball tournament, with a total of 22 teams from all over Arizona participating. The winners and runner-ups are as follows: o Co-ed division winner Vac-Tech / Gilbert PD, 2nd place went to Peoria PD o Men’s Recreation Division winner Luke AFB / Miracle Men, 2nd place went to Phoenix PD / Central City. o Men’s Open Division winner was AZ Big Dawgs, 2nd place went to Majestic Market / DPS Flagstaff. The Arizona Diamondbacks and Luis Gonzales arranged to have items autographed for a raffle and Gonzales autographed a tournament ball for each team as a thank you for their involvement. Other community partners who made this event possible are: o Peoria Community Services Department who donated the fields o A to Z Foods who is donating the proceeds from concession sales to Officer Weigt o Oak Craft o Classic Coach Works o Sun State Components o Reflections Dental o Peoria Diamond Club o Estrella Uniforms o Antigua Clothing o Special T’s o Awards by C&L ### |
