PEORIA POLICE SEEK HELP IN LOCATING ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT

On June 15, at 2120 hours Officers from the Peoria Police Department responded to an armed robbery which occurred at the Mr. Goodscents located at 8940 West Bell Road #107 in Peoria. The suspect gained entry through the rear door of the business as the three employees inside were closing for the day. The suspect pointed a handgun at the employees and demanded money. He then took cash from the register and fired a single round from the handgun in the direction of one of the employees. The projectile exited the store’s front window striking the covered walkway. The suspect fled out the back door.
Officers quickly responded and set up a perimeter. They located a suspicious vehicle to the rear of Mr. Goodscents occupied by three persons. The rear passenger was extremely nervous and matched the suspect description. Officers instructed the driver to shut the engine off. The driver ignored commands and sped off. The vehicle traveled to the area of 91st Drive and Villa Rita where all three occupants attempted to flee on foot. The driver and one passenger were immediately apprehended. The driver was identified as Herbert L. Schillerstrom Jr. with a date of birth of 10-28-1987. He was later booked in connection with the armed robbery. The second person apprehended was questioned and released. The armed robbery suspect, Stephen M. Curtis was not located after an extensive search.
The suspect may have access to a 1997 White Chevy Caviler with an Arizona plate of 252 PKA and should be considered armed and dangerous. Despite the suspect’s actions, no one was injured during the robbery.
