SUBJECT ARRESTED AFTER SENIOR PRANK Suspect information Zubair Hussaini Male DOB: 05-01-88 Booked on: 1 count - Interfering with Educational Institution 1 count - Obstructing Governmental Operations On Monday, May 22, at 11:45 AM officers from the Peoria Police Department responded to Peoria High School reference a subject on the campus armed with a hand gun. The campus was already on lock down due to another incident nearby. Cheyenne Elementary School, which is located west of Peoria High School, was also placed on lock down. A search was conducted of the Peoria High School campus and at 1:10 PM the search was completed with negative results and the lock down terminated. At 1:30 PM another call was received from Peoria High School stating that a subject was seen wearing a yellow t-shirt and black ski mask and possibly armed with a hand gun was observed on the campus by an employee. The subject fled the campus into the neighborhood to the east where the area was sealed off by Peoria Police units and the yellow t-shirt and ski mask were located. The subject was pointed out by numerous residents in the area and was finally stopped on 83rd Avenue and Paradise Drive by Peoria officers. After being interviewed, the subject admitted to being the one on the Peoria High School campus wearing the yellow t-shirt and ski mask. He told the officers that he was not armed and did this as a “senior prank” after being dared by another student. The suspect was booked into the Peoria Police Department on charges of interfering with an educational institution and obstructing governmental operations, both misdemeanors. While “senior pranks” are historically a part of high school graduations, they often lead to consequences that are not thought of by those involved. During today’s incident the Peoria Police Department had 25 officers involved in the perimeters at Wal-Mart and Peoria High School for 2 ˝ hours. Having these resources committed meant responding to other incidents in the city would have been slowed considerably. This type of activity places the community and our officers at risk as it requires an emergency response. Such an incident may seem harmless at the time but can have drastic consequences and could lead to restitution for the services necessary to handle the situation. ### |
