Peoria First Police
Department in AZ to Receive Polaris Operation RANGER Grant
The Peoria Police Department will
receive a new Polaris RANGER 6x6 Utility Vehicle, courtesy of U.S.
Smokeless Tobacco Co.’s 2005 National Donation Program, Operation
RANGER.
The Police Department currently relies on 4-wheel drive vehicles
when responding to remote parts of the city, however, those vehicles
are not always adequate for officers servicing those areas. The
RANGER will greatly increase our officer’s abilities to service and
access the most remote sections of desert, river bottoms and washes
in the far northern part of Peoria. It will also be used in
high-intensity patrol areas, the Commercial Enforcement District and
will work in concert with the NAT (Neighborhood Action Team)/NRT
(Neighborhood Response Team) and special events at the Peoria Sports
Complex.
The Operation RANGER program is specifically geared for Public
Service, primarily Fire and Law Enforcement. The Polaris RANGER is
valued at more than $9,000 and offers, among other things, on-demand
6-wheel drive, more than seven inches of ground clearance and a
4,000 pound capacity winch. The Peoria Police Department was one of
1,300 agencies which applied for 70 Rangers to be donated this year.
There will be a photo opportunity for members of the media next
Thursday, May 19, 2005, when the RANGER is delivered to the Peoria
Police Department.
