Peoria Police Recognize their own at 2005 Awards
Ceremony During the 2005 Awards Ceremony held on Friday, March 31, Police Chief David Leonardo presented awards to the employees of the year in several categories. He also recognized employees for special and educational achievement. During this year’s ceremony the first ever Police Star was awarded to Officer William Weigt. This award is issued to an employee who, as the result of a heroic act or to serve the furtherance of justice, is injured in the performance of their assigned duties. Officer Weigt was shot by a homicide suspect on December 17, 2005 and is paralyzed from the chest down.
