Peoria Police Release UCR Comparison 2006
The enclosed statistics compare the rates of Part I Crimes in Peoria
for 2006 versus 2005. These are only crimes that are categorized as
Part I Crimes by the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report (UCR), and include
homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny,
motor vehicle theft, and arson. These are the official numbers
reported to the FBI and do not include cases that have been
unfounded.
“Peoria continues to be a very safe city.” said Interim Police Chief
Larry Ratcliff. “Our current crime rate is lower than it was in 2000
on a per capita basis and in 2006 we had an impact on the crimes the
community has told us they are most concern with, property crimes.”
Although some UCR categories saw an increase, reported crimes
decreased by 4% over 2005 dropping from 6,297 to 6,057.
Decreasing over 2005:
• Burglaries (down 52 from 1127 to 1075)
• Larceny (down 175 from 3710 to 3672)
• Vehicle thefts (down 175 from 1147 to 972)
Increases were seen in:
• Rape (up 1 from 40 to 41)
• Robbery (up 8 from 69 to 77)
• Aggravated assaults (up 16 from 181 to 197).
Staying the same were homicides at 3 and arsons at 20.
In 2006 the City of Peoria had a population increase of 9.5%,
growing from 139,047 to 146,139, while our crimes per 100,000 went
down by 9% dropping from 4, 529 to 4,145.
The members of the Peoria Police Department work hard with their
community partners to ensure Peoria remains a safe place to live,
work and play. It is through the combined efforts of the police
department working with the business community and residents that
will continue to keep Peoria a place where crime rate is at the
lowest levels possible.
