MEDIA INFORMATION RELEASE

Peoria Police joined by Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks in recognizing Officer Bill Weigt as he throws out first pitch

Date/Time:
Thursday, March 23, 2006
6:55 PM
Location:
Peoria Sports Complex
16101 N. 83rd Avenue

Officer Bill Weigt was paralyzed in a shootout with a homicide suspect on December 17, 2005. On Thursday, March 23 at 6:55 PM he will be throwing out the first pitch to be caught by Luis Gonzales of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Luis has been very supportive of Bill and has been personally involved in several benefit events.

As a surprise to Bill, members of the Peoria Police Department, players of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Seattle Mariners will honor Bill by lining the 1st and 3rd base lines as he throws out the first pitch. Bill is excited about the game, but he has no idea of the special salute that will be bestowed upon him by his peers and the MLB players.

NOTE:
I have arranged for media to park in the gravel area on the north side of the Mariners Clubhouse. Enter the stadium at Mariners Way and 83rd Avenue. Please be there by 6:30 PM so we can go on the field as a group as you will be on the warning track just behind home plate. This is a sold out game and traffic will be a mess. Come up 83rd Avenue from Thunderbird!! DO NOT TRY TO GET THERE AT EXACTLY 6:30 AS YOU MAY NOT MAKE IT ON TIME AND DO NOT EXIT AT BELL ROAD AS YOU WILL GET STUCK IN TRAFFIC.
