The Chief of
Police is the highest
ranking sworn position within the police department.
The Chief of Police is appointed by the City Manager
and is subject to approval by vote of the Mayor and
City Council. The Chief of Police is
responsible for the overall effectiveness and
efficiency of the police department, employing
modern law enforcement management practices and
principles.
Chief Larry Ratcliff has law enforcement
jurisdiction throughout the 178 square
miles that comprise the City of Peoria
and command responsibility for 250 total
employees, civilian and sworn.
The Police
Chief reports to the Deputy City Manager of Safety
and Administrative Services, who reports directly to
the City Manager. Chief Ratcliff administers an
annual budget of $27million dollars.
