The Peoria Police Department has a strong Community Oriented Policing philosophy, which shapes the way the Department conducts its daily business. Integral to the Community Oriented Policing philosophy are programs such as Neighborhood Block Watch, Citizen Police Academies, Bicycle Patrols, and the Volunteer Program.

In fiscal year 2007, the Peoria Police Department consists of 274 employees. The Department’s operating budget is approximately $27 million.

The City of Peoria is Arizona's ninth largest city with an estimated year 2006 population of 138,143.  Peoria is located in the Northwest portion of the Valley of the Sun with the state capital of Phoenix and the neighboring city of Glendale to the east, and the retirement community of Sun City to the west.

There are many reasons why Peoria is one of Arizona's most desirable cities. Of course, Peoria is not just a great place to work, it's a great place to live. Whether its year-round events at the Peoria Sports Complex (Spring training home to the Padres and Mariners), the Challenger Space Center, or the Lake Pleasant Regional Park, Peoria offers something for every taste.

One reason that Peoria stands out is the people who provide police services.  The Peoria Police Department shares a commitment to provide quality services for the community and to make our city safe.  These values are reflected in the departments international accreditation and award winning individuals.

During the most recent re-accreditation, the Peoria Police department also received special recognition for an exemplary mentoring program. Exemplary programs must be unique or extraordinary in that it enhances some aspect of law enforcement professionalism and meet established guidelines that are measurable. The mentoring program goals include employee retention, career enhancement, professional development, and instilling pride and accomplishment - all ultimately geared toward helping officers succeed.
