Community Park #2
On July 1st, the City Council awarded a
contract to Haydon Building Corporation for preconstruction master
planning services.
The City of Peoria
purchased a 60-acre parcel of land located near the southeast intersection
of 83rd
Ave and Olive Avenue. The previous and current use of the land is
agriculture. The property was owned and farmed by a single family for more
than one-half century which could carry some potential theme for the park.
Approximately 22-acres of land along Olive Avenue has been set aside for
commercial and business related uses and preliminary
development plans have been submitted to the city for consideration. Staff
is also discussing the possibility of having shared access from Olive
Avenue near the 81st
Avenue alignment with the commercial development.
The primary goal of this Community Park project is to develop a master
plan with emphasis for sports and athletic fields. Once the master plan
has been approved, the consultants will proceed to develop plans and
specifications for a Phase 1 development that will include lighted adult
softball fields, and lighted multi-purpose fields for traditional sports
such as soccer and football, if funding allows. The successful consultant
will identify all associated amenities to support these fields, such as
restrooms, concessions, parking, shade facilities, landscaping, etc.
