10/25/2012
At the 2012 Clean Cities Peer Exchange and Vehicle Technology Deployment
Workshop on October 19, the Valley of the Sun Clean Cities Coalition (VSCCC),
which Peoria is a member of, was recognized for their outstanding contribution
to the Clean Cities petroleum reduction mission.
Clean Cities advances the nation’s economic, environmental, and energy security
by supporting local actions to reduce petroleum consumption in transportation. A
national network of nearly 100 Clean Cities' coalitions brings together
stakeholders in the public and private sectors to deploy alternative and
renewable fuels, idle-reduction measures, fuel economy improvements, and
emerging transportation technologies.
The VSCCC coalition received Top Award for Greatest Displacement of Petroleum
Using Biodiesel, Top Award for Greatest Displacement of Petroleum Using LNG,
Honorable Mention for Greatest Displacement of Petroleum Using CNG, and
Honorable Mention for Top Overall in Vehicle Miles Traveled. The U.S. Department
of Energy commended the Valley of the Sun Clean Cities Coalition on this
important achievement.
The Coalition is comprised of more than sixty government, utility, and business
organizations with an innovative vision and strategic plan for cleaner air and a
future less dependent on petroleum. The Coalition‘s stakeholders operate nearly
7,000 alternative fuel vehicles and displace some 51 million gallons of
petroleum fuel annually with alternative fuels such as natural gas, biodiesel,
propane, ethanol, and electricity.
