After months of delay, Peoria will open Scotland Yard Park with a dedication
and ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, September 8 at 8:30 a.m. The park,
located at 9251 W. Scotland Avenue, features a playground, basketball and tennis
courts, enclosed dog park, walking trail, picnic area, ramadas and a citrus
orchard where fruit may be harvested.
Costing $1.35 million to build, the eight acre park was designed and built using
sustainable practices, including limited turf areas for water conservation. The
landscape and hardscape areas are made of "urbanite" materials consisting of
recycled concrete. Urbanite areas within the park are benches in the citrus
grove, boulders at various locations and ground cover where rock or gravel would
normally be used.
Scotland Yard Park was significantly delayed due to contractor issues. The city
was able to hire a new contractor to complete the park.
