Peoria City Manager Carl Swenson announced today that Julie Ayers, SPHR, CPM,
Yavapai County Administrator is his selection as the new Human Resources
Director for the city. She will be presented to the Peoria City Council at their
June 19 City Council Meeting for confirmation.
Ayers has been in the role of county administrator since 2007. Prior to her
appointment she was the Director of Human Resources and Risk Management for
Yavapai County from 2000 until 2007, and was previously a director of human
resources in the private sector. Ayers is taking a position within the city
which has been vacant since October 2011 when Wynette Reed resigned to accept
the director of human resources role for the city of Goodyear. Assistant to the
City Manager, Claudia Lujan has been the interim director until a replacement
was found.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for me and my family," said Ayers. "Peoria is a dynamic city with an outstanding reputation and I am looking forward to being a
part of the leadership team."
Peoria did a national focused search with the help of Novak Consulting Group
from Cincinnati, Ohio, and invited five finalists to interview with the City's
executive team.
"We are excited to have someone with the level of experience and expertise that
Julie brings to our city's executive team," said Swenson. "With nearly 1,100
employees serving the city, Julie's unique experience in county management and
private sector background makes her an ideal leader as we move into the future."
Ayers earned her B.S. in Business Management with Human Resources emphasis from
Arizona State University in 1993, and is working towards a Masters of Public
Administration from Grand Canyon University.
Ayers will start her role as Human Resources Director in late July and her
salary will be $137,000.
