Ozone Health Watch Extended through Wednesday
Take Action to Improve Valley Air Quality
5/29/2012
Ground level ozone is formed by a chemical reaction
that needs heat from sunlight, nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds to
form. The months of April through September make up the Valley’s
longer-than-normal "ozone season." Follow these simple steps to help reduce it:
Avoid waiting in long drive-thru lines, for example, at coffee shops,
fast-food restaurants or banks. Park car and go inside.
Unplug unused appliances.
Fuel vehicles after dark.
Connect outdoor lights to a timer or use solar lighting.
