Annual Dolly Sanchez Memorial Easter Egg Hunt
City of Peoria marks 36th year of family event with Easter candy, games and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Bunny.

The city of Peoria invites the community out to enjoy the 36th Annual Dolly Sanchez Memorial Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. to Noon at Peoria Sports Complex. The event is co-sponsored by radio stations MEGA 104.3 and 98.7 The Peak.

Cottontail Lane will be open for kids to participate in carnival games and fun art & craft activities. Other highlights of the event will include entertainment, make & take crafts, carnival games, inflatable's, a petting zoo, pony rides, train rides and much more. Some activities have a nominal fee. The family scavenger hunt begins at 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Bunny will be on-hand to start the candy hunts and take pictures with kids. Candy hunt times are:
Age 1- 8:20 a.m. Age 5- 9:50 a.m.
Age 2- 8:45 a.m. Age 6- 10:10 a.m.
Age 3- 9:10 a.m. Age 7&8- 10:25 a.m.
Age 4- 9:30 a.m. Age 9&10- 10:40 a.m.
Family Scavenger Hunt- 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Gates open at 8 a.m. at Peoria Sports Complex, located at 16101 North 83rd Ave., just south of Bell Road. Parking and admission are free with a donation of canned food to benefit St. Mary’s Westside Food Bank Alliance. Food and beverage concessions will be available for purchase including a special $5 kids’ meal (hot dog, small soda and chips) for those 12 and under. About the Dolly Sanchez Easter Egg Hunt
The Easter Egg Hunts were initiated in 1976 by Dolly Sanchez, who was a member of the Peoria Community Action Program and Parks and Recreation Board. Because of the success of the hunts, coupled with the city’s growth, the Peoria Community Services Department was asked to help in 1983. Thus, a twenty-nine year partnership has developed to improve and expand this fun-filled family event. Through the years, the Easter Egg Hunts have expanded from one park, Varney, to seven neighborhood parks, and finally in 1994 to Peoria sports Complex. The hunts have experienced steady growth since its conception in 1976.

The Sanchez family remains an integral part of the Easter Egg Hunts and the community. The Community Action Program continues to assist the families of Peoria and is located in the Peoria Community Center.
