PEORIA, Ariz. (November 7, 2011) – Members of the Peoria Sunset Lions Club –
led by Rachelle Barrett, the wife of Peoria Mayor Bob Barrett – will drop off
collection boxes for the Lions’ Christmas for the Troops campaign Tuesday,
November 8, between 10 a.m.. and 11 a.m., at the Ironwood Room in City Hall.
City workers will put the boxes in 12 city facilities.
Christmas for the Troops seeks to gather everyday items for shipment to U.S.
forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. Those items fall into three categories:
• Items for the troops themselves, such as toiletries, white tube socks, snack
food, books and magazines. Also dog food, treats and toys for dogs in K-9 units.
• Phone cards that troops can use to check in with their families.
• Candy and simple toys -- such as Slinkys, Silly Putty and yo-yos – for
distribution to local children in deployment areas.
Monetary donations also are needed to help pay for postage. Those can be sent to
Peoria Sunset Lions Club Foundation, P.O. Box 326, Peoria, Ariz. 85380-0326.
