City of Peoria, AZ Press Release - Carlo Leone Awarded Leadership Training Honor

PEORIA, Ariz. (November 28, 2011) –Peoria City Councilmember, Carlo Leone was recognized by the National League of Cities (NLC) as one of only 84 elected officials to reach the Diamond level in its Certificate of Achievement in Leadership program. This is the fifth time Leone has been recognized with this distinction. Sponsored by the NLC Leadership Training Institute (LTI), the certificates were awarded at the Congress of Cities Conference in Phoenix, AZ in November 2011. Diamond certificates are awarded to local elected officials who earn 80 credits in five core areas of municipal leadership and who serve as a mentor for fellow NLC members and other elected officials. Recipients must also complete at least four additional LTI credits each year and continue to participate in the mentorship program. Councilman Leone has achieved the level of Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond certification with the National League of Cities Leadership Institute and serves on the Human Development and Leadership Training Committees. “I work hard everyday to learn as much as possible to be the best city council member for my district (Pine District) and the city,” said Leone. “Going through the training gives me valuable tools to help meet the needs of the citizens.” “Quality professional development is an important component for any profession, including public service. Councilman Leone was first elected to the Peoria City Council in May 1999, representing the Pine District and has been a resident of Peoria since 1988. NLC’s Leadership Training Council established the Certificate of Achievement in Leadership program in 1999. The primary purpose of the program is to recognize and acknowledge excellence in leadership by NLC members. Training seminars address one or more core areas of municipal leadership, such as growth and development of personal leadership, effective governance, effective communications and media relations, developing and promoting partnerships, and promoting and managing change.
