Walktober Teaches Kids Walking Safety, Promotes Health

The Peoria Police Department will kick off its Walking Wednesdays School Safety Program at Westwing Elementary School on Oct. 19. The program encourages students to walk safely to school to alleviate traffic congestion during drop-off/pick-up times and promote good health. Every Wednesday morning, police officers will meet at the park and walk with students to school. Based on the success of the program, the Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) will take over future coordination and increase the number of walking days each week.
