'Paving the Way' Film, Speaker Spotlight Miners' Walkout
3/15/2011
The March presentation of Peoria’s “Paving the Way” film series is the 1953 movie “Salt of the Earth,” which was produced, written and directed by filmmakers who were blacklisted at the time. It is a social-realist drama about a strike by Mexican-American zinc miners in New Mexico. The story intensifies when the strikers are forced to stop picketing and their wives take up the cause. The film will be accompanied by a presentation from guest speaker R. David Myers, a University of New Mexico faculty member and expert on the film. The program will be Wednesday, March 30, at 6 p.m. in the Willow Room of the Peoria Main Library.
