PEORIA, Ariz. (March 14, 2011) – Peoria Community Services Director JP
de la Montaigne announced he will be leaving his post on April 15 to take a
position in the Community Services Department with the city of Mountain View,
Calif.
De la Montaigne started with the city of Peoria in 1983 as director of Parks
and Recreation, which later was renamed Community Services to include the
library, social services, special events and the Peoria Sports Complex.
“JP has left his mark on the city of Peoria,” said City Manager Carl Swenson.
“He is one of the reasons why Peoria has top-notch recreation programs and
sports facilities. Over his 28 years with Peoria, he has been an effective
leader and dedicated employee. He will certainly be missed.”
Under his leadership, the city has built two public libraries; a community
park and recreation center; the Peoria Sports Complex; numerous neighborhood
parks; and Peoria’s extensive trail system.
De la Montaigne also championed baseball for Spring Training fans in the
Valley and was instrumental in making Peoria the Spring Training home of the
Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres. He played a large role in the Cactus
League, serving as president from 2002 to 2008.
“I have enjoyed my time in Peoria,” said de la Montaigne. “I will miss the
people and the city, but I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my life.”
Peoria plans to name an interim Community Services director in April.
