Deputy Chief to Oversee Police Until New Chief Is Hired

PEORIA, Ariz. (Jan. 27, 2011) – City Manager Carl Swenson has appointed Rocky J. Smith acting police chief until Peoria can replace Chief Larry Ratcliff, who retires Feb. 1.

As a deputy chief, Smith, 49, already oversees the Operations Division, which includes Patrol North and South, Criminal Investigations, Special Operations and Neighborhood Services.

Smith joined the Peoria Police Department as an officer in 1984. He is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.
