Mayor Proclaims April 14 Donate Life Registration Week
Encourages Residents to Register as Organ, Tissue Donor
Peoria, Ariz. (April 3, 2013) – Peoria Mayor Bob Barrett will proclaim April 14 ‘Donate Life Registration Week’ at the City Council’s April 9 meeting. The step is to bring awareness to National Donate Life Month and encourage everyone to register as an organ and/or tissue donor.
The awareness campaign in Peoria will begin a week before the proclamation, with Donor Network of Arizona representatives setting up an information and registration table at Peoria’s Arts & Cultural Festival on Saturday, and in City Hall on April 10 and 11.
Since 2003, April has been designated as the month people across the U.S. make a special effort to celebrate the generosity of those who have saved lives by becoming organ, tissue, marrow, and blood donors, and to encourage more Americans to follow their fine example. In this state, nearly 2,400 individuals are waiting for an organ transplant. Arizonans can sign up as registered organ, cornea and tissue donors by visiting www.DonateLifeAZ.org or calling 1-800-94-DONOR. They can also become donors when they apply or renew their driver’s license or ID at the Motor Vehicle Division.
