Fireworks Can Be Sold But Not Used In Peoria
Officials Encourage Residents Attend Event To View Professional Display
7/3/2012
Fire Department officials want to remind residents
that it is illegal to ignite fireworks in the city of Peoria. While a state law
permits the sale of fireworks, Peoria City Council enacted a ban on the use,
citing several safety concerns including: extreme danger of fire due to dry
weather conditions; possibility of fires spreading from yard to house or across
open areas and causing major damage to undeveloped areas; and high cost of
combating wildfires. The ban does not apply to professionally-managed fireworks
shows, such as the All-American Festival at the Peoria Sports Complex on July 4.
