March 13 Solar Fair Offers Tips to Help People Lower Energy Costs

3/1/2010

PEORIA, Ariz. (March 1, 2010) – The City of Peoria will dedicate a new solar-power array as part of an event designed to help individuals determine if solar energy is a viable option for their home or business.

The Peoria Solar Fair will be Saturday, March 13, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Beardsley Water Reclamation Facility, 19980 N. 111th Ave. (south of Beardsley Road). Dedication of the facility’s new solar array will take place at 10:30 a.m.

Qualified contractors, vendors and building officials will be on hand to answer questions about solar power. Those interested can schedule free estimates and learn about the costs and savings of solar installations for homes and businesses. Information on federal, state and utility company incentives that are available to help finance solar projects also will be available.

The Beardsley Solar Array provides a portion of the power needed for the facility’s operations building. It was built with funding and financing from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act and the state Water Infrastructure Finance Authority.

The array produces about 101,000kw/hours per year, which equates to an annual reduction of 75 tons of carbon dioxide, planting 379 trees or removing 12 midsize cars from the road.
