Which business activities require a license?
Peoria City Code requires that any person or firm conducting business in Peoria will obtain a license prior to conducting business. This requirement includes businesses within the corporate limits of Peoria or outside the corporate limits which conduct business or perform services within Peoria. Exemption from this requirement includes churches/service organizations engaging in business for a justified nonprofit purpose (i.e., 501(c)), certain agricultural operations and newspaper carriers.
The City of Peoria classifies businesses into separate categories for licensing purposes and each is described as the following types:
General Business Licenses:
Privilege (Sales) Tax License - There are numerous categories of business activities subject to the privilege (Sales) tax. These include: Construction Contracting (includes many handyman activities), Retail Sales, Real Property Rentals (Commercial and/or Residential), Rental of personal property, Amusements, Restaurants, Hotel/Motel, Vehicle Rentals, Cable Television.

Combined City and State Tax Rates
The Privilege (Sales) Tax License expires annually on December 31st.

All forms must be fully completed and signed and dated and all documentation must be provided including payment before the City will accept the application. Any required documentation deficiencies will result in the City returning the application and payment to you and will delay action on the application process.
