HOME OWNERS ASSOCIATION ACADEMY

GET INVOLVED - MAKE YOUR COMMUNITY YOUR HOME!

The mission of this Academy is to educate HOA board members, management teams, and all interested homeowners. The information provided by the Academy will enable students to maintain vibrant, healthy and responsive homeowners associations.

The West Valley Homeowners Associations (WVHOA), in partnership with the City of Peoria, offers this dynamic four-week training course twice a year. Topics covered include:

THE ABC's OF HOA's

This course offers an in-depth study of the following topics:

  • Organizational structure of HOA's

  • Assessments, fees and penalties

  • Open meeting laws

  • Effective communication with homeowners, board members, and City departments

  • Government statutes, codes and regulations

COMPLIANCE AND ENFORCEMENT

This course will review governing documents and how to enforce compliance and fairness within your HOA. Topics include:

  • How to encourage community cooperation

  • Violation notices, letters and the collection process

  • Rights of resident members to be heard

HOA BUDGETING, FINANCIALS AND RESERVES

The financial security of any community depends on how its assets are managed. Topics include:

  • How to create budget

  • Operating and reserve accounts

  • Special assessments

  • Audits

VENDORS, SPECIFICATIONS, BIDDING, AND CONTRACTING

Management staff are challenged with the task of working with vendors to provide services for their community. Topics include:

  • How to solicit bids for services or projects

  • How to develop specifications and create solicitation packages

  • How to evaluate the completed service or bid

  • What to do if things go wrong

SELECTING AND WORKING WITH A MANAGEMENT COMPANY

The business relationship between a management company the and Board of Directors is critical to the success of the community. Learn how to:

  • Define the services needed by the community

  • Select a management company

  • Assess the effectiveness of your company

  • Take corrective action

LEGAL ASPECTS OF HOA's

Knowledge of federal, state and local laws is essential for both board members and homeowners in order to operate effectively within the law. Topics include:

  • Federal, state, and local laws that impact HOA communities

  • Personal and professional liability of board members and
    homeowners

  • HOA bylaws and CC&R's
