The Neighborhood Pride
Program assists established neighborhoods in maintaining their
appearance and value. Cooperative work between the city and
volunteer groups help eliminate code violations while enhancing
properties. Recently, three neighborhoods have benefited thanks to
the Saturday morning efforts of legions of church volunteers who
pulled weeds, fixed fences and doors, replaced windows and painted
walls. If your group is interested in volunteering to work on a
Neighborhood Pride project, call 623-773-7667.

Peoria’s latest bridge
project is about to become the site of our newest public art
display. The city will construct a pedestrian trail under the
Thunderbird Road Bridge, just west of Loop 101, which will also be
home to a student art project. Children from 15 local schools
painted more than 1,000 ceramic tiles depicting the theme, “Water in
the Desert.” Groups of these 6-inch tiles will be displayed
permanently on the abutments beneath the bridge on both ends. Urban
hikers, bikers and other trail users will see the student art
beginning in June.

Scholarship Program, which assists low-income families with
registration fees and supplies. All funds are used for Peoria
residents, so the next time you are registering for a class,
consider a small donation to Play Peoria! More information is

Councilmember Ron Aames, Palo Verde
District
The City of Peoria is working hard to improve the
look of our walls and roadsides throughout the Palo Verde District
and the city. Freshly painted walls and well-maintained
rights-of-way and sidewalks are an important part of our
neighborhood identities. Also important are block watches and
block party celebrations, which help bring neighborhoods together.
If you are interested in a block party for your neighborhood, I
have a kit that can help you in the planning. Please contact me at
623-773-7306 or
ron.aames@peoriaaz.gov.

Vice Mayor Joan Evans, Willow District
If you spend any time around the Peoria Sports
Complex, you know it is more than just baseball. It is a great place
to eat, shop, take in a play, or watch Fourth of July fireworks. But
this outstanding community venue can be made even better, and the
Sports Complex District Urban Design study has been launched to that
end. If you have any ideas on how to improve this important
destination, contact me at 623-773-7306.
