US60 (Grand Avenue)
99th Avenue
to 83rd Avenue
Project Description
This project is part of an overall project being administered by
the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and the Regional Transportation
Plan (RTP) which includes funding to widen US60 (Grand Avenue) by
one lane in each direction along various segments between Loop 303
and Interstate 17 to create a continuous six-lane arterial by 2011.
Other unspecified improvements to improve traffic flow on Grand
Avenue are included in later phases of the 20-year Transportation
Plan. This particular segment within the City of Peoria, as
defined by ADOT, is from 99th Avenue to 83rd Avenue.
The segment from 99th Avenue to
83rd Avenue includes the following types of improvements:

Widening of Grand Avenue to 6
lanes (3 lanes each direction)

Loop 101 and New River Bridge

Intersection Improvements at
91st Avenue and Grand Avenue to include dual left turn lanes for
eastbound Grand Avenue to northbound 91st Avenue

Construction of a new sidewalk
along the east side of 91st Avenue at the BNSF Railroad Crossing

Status
Construction will begin on this project on
October 19, 2009 with restricting Grand Avenue to one lane in
each direction from 99th Avenue to 83rd Avenue to begin the
roadway, bridge widening, drainage and waterline improvements
included with the project. In addition, 91st Avenue will
be restricted at the Grand Avenue intersection at various times
to complete the required intersection improvements. The
northbound L101 off ramp to Grand Avenue will be temporarily
closed during the late evening hours on Sunday, October 18 only
while other traffic control devices are placed along Grand
Avenue s part of this project. Construction activities
will occur weekdays primarily during daytime hours, but some
weekend and night work may occur according to ADOT. The
anticipated completion date for the project is late 2010.
