LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL

SECOND ACCESS - 95TH AVENUE (EN00318) - Project #1

PEDESTRIAN REFUGE MEDIAN ISLAND  (EN00302)- Project #2

Project Description #1
This project will extend the existing Speckled Gecko Drive, located adjacent to Liberty High School, northerly to ultimately connect with the existing 95th Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road intersection.  This project will provide a secondary access to Liberty High School, whereby improving the traffic operations and circulation to and from the High School.  This project is intended to be an interim improvement until such time that the roadway will be fully improved by future developers.  In addition, an un-signalized pedestrian crossing will be added at the existing Deer Valley Road and 97th Avenue intersection with this project.

Project Description #2
The City of Peoria is constructing a new crosswalk with a raised pedestrian refuge island to improve safety for Liberty High School students crossing Deer Valley Road.   This project will remove the existing crosswalk on Deer Valley Road at 95th Avenue.  The new crossing will be located at a mid-block location approximately 400-feet west of 95th Avenue, at the school’s fire lane access where walking students exit the school property.  This new crosswalk will feature a ‘stagger’ that will make crossing the street a two-step process with a safety island in the center of the roadway, allowing pedestrians to focus on crossing one direction of traffic at a time.  In addition, this one crossing location is intended to serve all crossings of Deer Valley Road, keeping walking students away from busy and congested intersections such as 97th Avenue.
