Status
Peoria will dedicate the long-awaited connection
between the New River and Skunk Creek recreational trails, as
well as a new piece of artwork underneath the Thunderbird Road
bridge, on Saturday October 10th, at Rio Vista Recreation
Center. The newest segment of the city's trail system will
take users underneath the Loop 101 and 83rd Avenue, linking the
New River trail at the north end of Rio Vista Community Park
with the Skunk Creek trail east of 83rd. The artwork - a
mosaic by local school children evoking "water in the desert" -
is along the New River Trail as it passes under Thunderbird.
The festivities will begin with a free pancake breakfast at 7:30
a.m., followed by dedication ceremonies at 8:15 a.m.
Afterward, attendees are encouraged to head north on the trail
to experience the new connector and south to view the mosaic.
