CITY OF PEORIA, ARIZONA VETERANS MEMORIAL BOARD Rio Vista Recreation Center Westbrook Conference Room November 13, 2007 A Meeting of the Veterans Memorial Board of the City of Peoria, Arizona was convened at 8866A W. Thunderbird Road in open and public session in the Westbrook Conference Room at 5:00 p.m. Members Present: James Foulk, Doris Gosney, Phil Hanson, and Thomas Schaefer. Members Excused: Anthony Foglio Members Absent: Larry Litchenberg and Reed Webber Municipal Officials Present: Kirk Haines, Parks Manager; and Kristine Carr, Administrative Assistant Audience: 2(Robert Gosney, Doris Gosney husband; and, Cecilia Chan, Arizona Republic) MINUTES: The meeting minutes from the previous meeting (10/23/07) were not available for approval. DISPOSITION OF ABSENCES: Not applicable UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 1. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION TO APPROVE THE REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF OCTOBER 23, 2007. NEW BUSINESS: DISCUSSION OF THE NOVEMBER 10TH, RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY. Overall, the board was pleased with the event: guest speakers, food, and band were mentioned, in particular. Korean War Veterans appreciated the Mayor making special mention of sponsorship. Two new groups contact Kirk Haines for sponsorship: World War II and Desert Storm. The board has been approved for 53 events; 18 have been sponsored. Board may want to review approved events. Doris Gosney asked if an audio recording of the event was available. (The event was not recorded.) The Boy Scout participation (handing out American flags to attendees) was especially appreciated. The call for suggestions was made by Kirk Haines. None were made. Doris Gosney asked who the photographer was. (The photographer was contracted with the city.) Agenda items for the next board meeting were noted: 1) Review 10 of 53 approved requests. 2) Review board appointments, and selection of officers; renew membership, if necessary. 3) Think about scheduling more events. 4) Think about ways to move forward with architectural designs. 5) Make new list available: Soldiers Killed in Action.
