COUNCIL SUB-COMMITTEE BOARDS & COMMISSIONS APPOINTMENTS CITY OF PEORIA, ARIZONA Mesquite Conference Room October 27, 2006 A Regular Meeting of the Council Sub-Committee on Boards and Commissions Appointments for the City of Peoria, Arizona was convened by Chairman Carlat in open and public session at 8401 West Monroe, Peoria, Arizona, October 27, 2006 at 9:03 a.m. Members Present: Chairman Cathy Carlat; and Councilmember Joan Evans Members Absent: Vice Mayor Vicki Hunt. Staff Present: Constance Copeland, Assistant City Clerk, and Natalie Gilstrap, Executive Assistant NOTE: The order in which items appear in the minutes is not necessarily the order in which they were discussed in the meeting. NEW BUSINESS MINUTES: Motion was made by Councilmember Evans, seconded by Chairman Carlat, to amend the draft minutes of September 29, 2006 to reflect that Cathy Carlat resumed the Chair after the motion regarding Veterans Board member appointments. Upon vote, the motion passed unanimously. Boards and Commission Vacancies City Clerk’s Staff briefly reviewed the following Boards and Commissions member appointments that will be included on the November 14, 2006 City Council meeting agenda: Board of Adjustments Salvatore LaPuma (Ironwood) re-appointment to serve until December 2010. Building Board of Appeals David Demmer (Palo Verde) re-appointment to serve until December 2010. Citizens Commission on Salaries for Elected City Officials Craig Wismer (Ironwood) re-appointment to serve until December 2010. Design Review Appeals Board Gary Nelson (Willow) re-appointment to serve until December 2010. Design Standards Advisory Board Brandon Squire (Ironwood) and Sharon Ketelboeter (Ironwood) re-appointments to serve until December 2010. Historic Preservation Commission Ken Feldman (Ironwood) and Gary Nelson (Willow) re-appointments to serve until December 2010. Planning and Zoning Commission Marc Melbo (Ironwood) re-appointment to serve until December 2010. Sister Cities Board Staff reported that two applications have been received for this Board which would not constitute a quorum. The Subcommittee agreed that this item should be brought back on the December 22, 2006 agenda. Veterans Memorial Board Staff reported that applications are on file Bob Barrett, Anthony Foglio, James Foulk, Phil Hanson, Larry Lichtenerb and Tom Schaefer. Recommendations for appointment may be included on the November 14, 2006 agenda at the discretion of the Mayor. Youth Advisory Board Staff presented a draft Ordinance pertaining to the Youth Advisory residency requirements which was reviewed by the Subcommittee. Staff indicated that the draft ordinance will be submitted to the City Attorney’s Office for final approval and submission to Council. Boards and Commissions Recognition Event Constance Copeland, Assistant City Clerk, reported that the City Clerk’s Office is consulting other departmental calendars to ensure that the Boards and Commissions Recognition Event tentatively set for April 16, 2007 does not conflict or occur too close to other scheduled events or conferences. Chairman Carlat suggested a theme of “April Showers” with an umbrella as a complimentary gift. It was suggested that possibly the Arizona Broadway Theater Bits-n- Pieces performance could be geared toward the theme.
