COUNCIL SUBCOMMITTEE BOARDS & COMMISSIONS APPOINTMENTS CITY OF PEORIA, ARIZONA Mesquite Conference Room April 25, 2008 A meeting of the Council Subcommittee on Boards and Commissions Appointments for the City of Peoria, Arizona was convened by Chairman Carlat in open and public session at 8401 West Monroe, Peoria, Arizona, on April 25, 2008 at 2:04 p.m. Members Present: Chairman Cathy Carlat, Councilmember Joan Evans and Councilmember Vicki Hunt Members Absent: None Staff Present: Mary Jo Kief, City Clerk and Gina Soria, Department Program Support Assistant – Elections. NOTE: The order in which items appear in the minutes is not necessarily the order in which they were discussed in the meeting. CONSENT AGENDA: All items listed with a “C” are considered to be routine or have been previously reviewed by the Council Subcommittee, and may be enacted by one motion. There is no separate discussion of these items unless a Council Subcommittee member so requests; in which event the item will be removed from the General Order of Business, and considered in its normal sequence on the Agenda. Motion was made by Councilmember Evans, seconded by Councilmember Hunt, to approve the consent agenda as submitted. Upon vote, the motion passed unanimously. CONSENT – New Business: 1C MINUTES: Approved April 11, 2008 Meeting 2C DISPOSITION OF ABSENCE: Approved Discussion and possible action to approve the absence of Councilmember Hunt from the April 11, 2008 meeting. REGULAR AGENDA NEW BUSINESS: 3R Boards and Commissions Vacancies Historic Preservation Commission Staff reported that on April 16, 2008, the City Clerk’s Office received a letter of resignation from Ken Feldman, a regular member of the Historic Preservation Commission. The acceptance of Mr. Feldman’s resignation would create a vacancy with a term expiration of December 2010. Motion was made by Councilmember Hunt, seconded by Councilmember Evans, to recommend the acceptance of Ken Feldman’s resignation and appoint Karen Garbe, as a regular member of the Historic Preservation Commission, with a term to expire December 2010; filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Ken Feldman. Upon vote, the motion carried unanimously. Public Defender Contract Review Committee Staff reported that the term for John Buonagurio, a regular member of the Public Defender Contract Review Committee, is set to expire in June 2008. Mr. Buonagurio is eligible for re- appointment to a four year term. Motion was made by Councilmember Evans, seconded by Councilmember Hunt, to recommend the re-appointment of John Buonagurio, a regular member of the Public Defender Contract Review Committee, with a term expiration of June 2012. Upon vote, the motion carried unanimously. Staff Report: Staff gave an update on the 2008 Boards and Commissions recognition event, highlighting estimated attendance and Chair participation.
